Want to stand up for where you live or work and make real changes?

Madeley Parish Council meets regularly on the 1st Thursday of the Month,  to make decisions on the work and direction of the Council. As an elected body, the work of a Parish Council involves delivering services to meet local needs, striving to improve the quality of life in the parish and representing the local community.

Description of the role

  1. Role: Parish Councillor
  2. Responsible to: All people resident within the Parish
  3. Period of service: Four-year term of office, can be re-elected
  4. Salary: This is a voluntary position
  5. Main purpose:
    1. Representing the views of all residents within your parish. Regular liaison with Other councillors, local authorities, residents
    2. Secondary purpose:
      1. As part of a local council you will have responsibility for running local services
        which may include: open spaces, play areas, village halls, community car
        schemes and potentially much more.
      2. Deciding on how much to raise through the council tax in order to deliver your
        councils services.
      3. Influencing and shaping the long term development policy for the parish, and
        as part of the planning process, comment on planning applications in the
        parish.
      4. Improve the quality of life and the environment in their local area.
        Working to identify issues which are important to the lives of the residents
        you represent.
      5. Working to bring about improvements through local projects, lobbying other
        service providers and working in partnership with other parishes and agencies

  1. you need to be 18 or over, and,
  2. be a British citizen, a Commonwealth citizen or a citizen of a European Union
    Country

You will need to answer ‘Yes’ to at least one of the below;

  • Be registered on on the electoral register for the Parish of Madeley,
  • Have lived either in the Parish or within 3 miles of the boundary for a least a
    year,
  • Have been the owner or tenant of land in the Parish for at least a year,
  • Have  had your only or main place of work within the Parish for at least a
    year

The closing date for applications is 20th June at 4pm.
